Edward Savage – Quick Bio
Edward Savage grew up on Vancouver Island and has spent most of his life immersed in the wilds of the coastal regions. He has worked up and down the west coast of Canada for almost 20 years as either a kayak guide, whale watching skipper, first mate on an expedition ship, base-camp host, grizzly bear viewing guide, or naturalist.
Edward is a certified Level 3 Bear Viewing Guide with the Commercial Bear Viewing Association – the highest level attainable.
In 2016, he expanded his guiding to Churchill, Manitoba, where he has returned for over a decade. He’s spent countless hours watching polar bears, beluga whales, and the northern lights. Internationally, he leads nature-focused expeditions and photography tours in Iceland, East Greenland, and China. With hundreds of expeditions in BC and around the world, Edward brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion for the places he travels. While in the field, he enjoys sharing knowledge and conversing about the wildlife, ecology, geology, history, you name it.
Edward has been leading photography expeditions since 2017 in Canada and around the world. He’s helped hundreds of photographers, or photography keen travelers learn more about their equipment and maximize their time on location. He wants you to get the most out of your photos and will work closely with you and your gear to get the results you’re looking for. Edward’s photography has been published by Canadian Geographic, WWF-USA, Seaside Magazine, CBC, Robb Report, and online and in print for numerous tour operators in Canada and the US.
Edward began writing and curating coffee-table photo books based on his career as a bear viewing guide and photographer in 2025. First, he published Wild Bears of Canada with Harbour Publishing. Second, in mid-2026, he published Where the Wild Grizzlies Wander, a limited run focusing solely on the bears of Knight Inlet.
Edward lives in Nanaimo, BC with his partner, Candice, and their two young children, Lily and Grayson.
